Stacia Osborne is one of 12 Mingus Union girls tennis players who won their matches on Thursday at Bradshaw Mountain.
The Lady Marauders fought through an extremely blustery afternoon to sweep Bradshaw Mountain in every match.
"It's not that much fun to play in such windy conditions; it is fun to win," said coach Jeff Knight. "Not only did all 12 girls win, but there were some significant matches."
Reigning Skyline Region singles champion Angela Mier played in one such bout. The senior jumped into the new season with an impressive victory against the Bears' number one player.
"Angela is not only playing better this year, she is making better decisions and adjusting her game to fit her talent and skill," Knight said.
The Marauders' number one doubles team, Jill Ferreira and Julie Knight, rallied from a 7-3 deficit to win 9-7. Krista Kessel won her singles duel against a strong opponent 8-4. Stacia Osborne played solid en route to an 8-1 victory.
Other singles winners included Kate Ferreira (8-0), Jill Ferreira (8-0), Tasha Gillies (8-0), Amber Gillies (8-0) and Natalie Alred (8-1). Winners in shortened matches (due to weather and darkness) included Laura Weir (4-2), Karyn Knight (5-1) and Ashley Christy (forfeit).
Kate Ferreira and Kessel teamed up for an 8-3 doubles triumph. The Mier-Osborne and Alred-Weir doubles combinations resulted in a pair of 8-0 sweeps. Karyn Knight and Christy, both freshman, won their first match together 8-1.
Mingus also beat Sedona in non-conference action on Tuesday. The Marauders will play at home three times this week, hosting Prescott (Tuesday), Pinnacle (Thursday) and Agua Fria (Friday). A trip to Dysart on Wednesday rounds out the busy slate.
