Verde Valley Medical Center President/Chief Operating Officer Craig Owens has announced his resignation, effective July 2002.
Owens has accepted a position with Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, Calif., as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
In September 2001, Modern Healthcare magazine named Owens one of the nation's top young healthcare executives. Owens was selected, in part, for his work in the development of cardiology services at VVMC, including a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory and intervention program. Also noted was Owens' work in completing VVMC's $22 million hospital expansion.
"Verde Valley Medical Center has an extraordinary bright future," said Owens. "The board, senior leadership team, managers, employees, medical staff and volunteers are caring professionals of the highest caliber. I'm sorry to leave an organization that has provided me with such a wonderful opportunity; yet I believe my new role at Eisenhower will enable me to continue developing my skills and career in hospital administration."
Northern Arizona Healthcare President/C.E.O. Joseph Kortum announced a nationwide search for a new VVMC president has been initiated.
"I have the highest regard for Craig and will miss his considerable talent and leadership," said Kortum. "He's done a great job for VVMC and the community. We know VVMC's excellent reputation will attract many candidates eager to continue the growth and development of healthcare services in the Verde Valley."
