March 11 is primary election for city council

Jauregui is a longtime hair stylist and owner of Wild West Hair Cutters in Cottonwood. He is a former city council member and became mayor six years ago.

Shamrell is a certified dental assistant. She has been a council member for six years. Shamrell was appointed to a two-year term before being elected to her current four-year term.

Pfeifer is the office manager at Farm Bureau in Cottonwood, as well as an insurance agent. She previously was elected to the council in 1991, then was off awhile before beginning her current council term four years ago.

Lowe is a plant-operation maintenance technician at Verde Valley Medical Center in Cottonwood. He is completing his first four-year term as a council member. He also had served on the city Planning and Zoning Commission immediately prior to being elected to the council.

Joens is a former administrative aide to the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors in Cottonwood. She is co-owner of High Desert Landscaping in Cottonwood and is working full-time on an internship (the Verde River Almanac). This is Joens’ first bid for a political office.

Rothrock is a teacher and Hands Across The Border coordinator at Cottonwood Middle School. This is his first bid for a political office. Rothrock had served previously on the Cottonwood Public Library Board. He said he now has time to serve the public again since finishing a master’s degree in education leadership.
