Historical evidence is abundant

Editor:

The question raised by Mr. Womack March 12: is there historical evidence for the violence, cruelty and severity of Christ’s passion? My letter showed the serious historical evidence that proves Mel Gibson did do his homework for his movie. I am sorry he found the “the graphic description of the whipping" and the film of it repulsive. It was not my description. It is what happened in history.

My letter was not “Bible-thumping.” I never insinuated that Mr. Womack is “going to hell” nor do I think that. I do not hate Mr. Womack either. However, I did write that the movie has helped me and others in a similar way for the good. The letter was written to show historical evidence.

Mel Gibson put $30 million of his own money into The Passion Of The Christ. He did it to help save souls. He did not do it for the money or fame, although he is being blessed financially because his movie is such a well-done, historically and theologically correct piece of work.

It is my hope, that all who see, The Passion Of The Christ will understand its message and help them in their life.

Last but not least, I would like to thank Mr. Michael L. Mueller for his much-needed, excellent, serious and theological explanation in his letter to Mr. Womack on Wednesday, March 31.
