Camp Verde man dies, suicide suspected

Camp Verde Marshal's Office reported that deputies responded to a report of a suicide at a residence on Mondale Lane at approximately 7:40 a.m. Jan. 6.

At the location, a body was identified as Barry A. Schmidt, 43, of Camp Verde. Emergency medical personnel determined Schmidt was dead after the victim's brother, Kyle Lee Schmidt, led them to the body.

According to the police report, deputies discovered a Sig-Sauer .40 caliber pistol next to the victim's body and deduced that the victim suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

According to the police report, Schmidt's body was transported to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner's Office in Prescott for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Deputies report that the case remains under investigation pending autopsy results.

According to the report, the pistol was confiscated by the Camp Verde Marshal's Office.
