"Cottonwood Buckle Series"

On March 6, at the "Cottonwood Equestrian and Animal Events Center", the "Cottonwood Buckle Series" will begin. Warm-up and registration starts at 5 p.m. the event starts at 5:30 p.m. The series will consist of timed barrel racing and timed pole bending, cost $5 for barrel and $5 for pole bending. Their will be seven divisions based on times, each division winner will receive a brand new "Montana Silversmiths" buckle. Those not wishing to compete can ride for time only, which cost $3 for barrel and $3 for pole bending.

The "Buckle Series" is an eight week competition that strives to provide fun for all ages and skill levels. Each division is separated by a two week average at the beginning of the series. Points are earned by placing 1-3rd in his or her division. At the end of the series points are totaled in each division and a winner is named for that division.

The arena is located next to the Verde Valley Fairgrounds in Cottonwood AZ.

Race Day Registration and packet pick-up begins at 7:30 A.M at the parade grandstand on the corner of Jordan Rd. and Mesquite Ave. The race starts at 8:30 A.M.

Parking: The Sedona Municipal parking lot on Schnebly Rd.

Race Fee includes: T-shirts, refreshments, and finishing results.

*Boys 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12

*Girls 6 and under, 7-9, 10-12

*Men's open and Women's open

(Leashed dogs are welcomed for the 1 Mile fun run)

5 K-

*Men's 17 and under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over

*Women's 17 and under, 18-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over

Awards are given to 1st and 2nd place runners in all categories and best St. Patrick's Day costume.

2nd annual Golf Tournament

Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church is sponsoring their second annual golf tournament on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Verde Sante Fe Golf Course.

It will be a 9am shotgun start with a 2008 Chevy Malibu for a Hole in One on Hole#3. Cash Prizes.

Single Player: $95 . . . . Foursome: $380 includes green and cart fee, luncheon buffet, various prize drawings, silent auction and refreshments.

Verde Valley Golf League

The Cottonwood and Camp Verde Parks & Recreation Departments are teaming up with the Verde Santa Fe and Beaver Creek Golf Pros for another Verde Valley Golf League season. The registration deadline for this league is March 19, 2008. All teams need to have a registration sheet filled out at the Cottonwood or Camp Verde Parks & Recreation to be eligible for the league. A single person may register and the Parks & Recreations Departments and we will try and fill a four-player team with single players. The registration is for four player teams, opportunity for a fifth player can be accommodated, but that player will be used as an alternate.

Games will be played at Verde Santa Fe Golf Course on the opening Friday and then alternate the next week to Beaver Creek Golf Course for a duration of five weeks. A Scramble, Best Ball and Stroke Shot format will be incorporated during league play. Tee times are scheduled for 4:30 P.M. each Friday at the designated course. The league will begin at Verde Santa Fe on March 21, 2008 and rotate courses until April 18, 2008.

The registration fee for the league is $16 per player per week plus tax. The fees will be taken at the golf course the day of league play or a one-time fee of $80 per player can be paid individually to either Parks and Recreation Department. Verde Valley Little League Registration Closing Soon

You must register soon to ensure your spot on a team for the 2008 season. Go to www.vvlittleleague.com and register online or print out the form and mail it to the address at the top. Stop by the LL tryouts at Riverfront park on 2/23 and 3/1/08 and register in person. You may also pick up a form at the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation office.
