The Golden Cobra Center of Fitness Inc. fighters are on a roll. Over the past couple of months the fighters from Cottonwood and Camp Verde have been earning belts and plaques from bouts in and around Arizona.
The most recent fighters to take home victories are Victor Romero of Camp Verde and Juan Munoz of Cottonwood.
Both fighters laced up their gloves and went round for round with their opponents at "A Night of Boxing and Kickboxing" hosted by Rosales Karate & Kickboxing in Albuquerque, NM on Nov. 8.
Munoz at 176-pounds, was the first to represent Golden Cobra when he stepped into the blue corner. His opponent was Graham Eden, 174-pound boxer from Bill Packer's gym. Munoz and Eden went the distance, boxing for three complete rounds. The judges tallied the points and awarded Munoz the win with a split decision.
In bout No. 15, Golden Cobra's Victor Romero, 147-pounds, got into the ring and faced Mark Morganstern at 145.5-pounds from the Rosales Gym for a New Mexico State title fight in kickboxing.
Both fighters battled it out through five rounds. After the last bell was rung, Romero emerged the winner with a unanimous decision and another New Mexico State title. This is Romero's second State title. He earned a belt on Aug. 9 in the Rosales Boxing and Kickboxing Smoker.
Next up for the Golden Cobra team is to host the "Franco's Fight Night 2" in Cottonwood tomorrow night. Last year, Golden Cobra hosted the first Franco's Fight Night and earned money for the gym. The event was a success last year and is being held again at Franco's Italian Bistro in Cottonwood. This is a USA Boxing event.
Doors open at 5 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. All proceeds from the fights will benefit Golden Cobra. Adult ticket price is $10; kids under 12 are $5.
