The Fibromyalgia/Arthritis/Related Diseases Support Group will meet at Verde Valley Medical Center in Conference Room B from 10 a.m. until noon. Members are reminded that 2008-9 dues will be collected. Guests are welcome.

The guest speaker this month will be Dr. Devin A. Mikles MD, MD (H), F.A.C.P. He plans to discuss "How people with Fibromyalgia may prepare for a Doctor's appointment and make it meaningful."

Relay For Life Planning

Nov. 12

The Planning Committee for the 2009 Relay For Life of the Verde Valley will meet at Murphy's Grill on Main St. at 6 p.m. Meeting time will be one hour. Some planning for the 2009 event has already started but more members are needed for the Planning Committee. This is truly life-saving work. Relay For Life is the primary fund-raising arm of the American Cancer Society (ACS) and Relay events are held in more than 5,000 communities in the USA and in 19 foreign countries. The American Cancer Society devotes more funding to cancer research than any organization other than the federal government, in addition to it's programs of Advocacy, Education and Patient Services.

Square Dance time

The Cottonwood RoadRunners Square and Round Dance Club will host a square dance at 7 p.m. Rounds by Barb Lopez start at 7 p.m. and alternating Mainstream and Plus squares by Elmer Claycomb start at 7:30 p.m. The dance is at the Cottonwood Civic Center, 805 N. Main St. in Old Town Cottonwood. (The stone building on the corner.)

VFW Buddy Poppy campaign

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7400 and the Ladies Auxiliary distribute Buddy Poppies at various stores and banks in Cottonwood, Jerome and Sedona from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. According to Post Commander Ro Luce, "VFW bylaws require that proceeds from the Buddy Poppy drive must be used to benefit disabled and needy veterans and their families and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans in our community, which includes Jerome, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Sedona, Cornville and the suburban areas."

Cornville Potluck & Chili Cook-off

Nov. 12

The Cornville Community Association's annual potluck is at 7 p.m. in the Oak Creek Elementary Gym. There will be raffle prizes and entertainment from the Ricker Pickers. The Chili Cook-off will be judged by Chip and Karen Davis. This is the last meeting of the year so come out and join in the fun.

Day of the Dead Masquerade Ball

Major Lingo's annual Day Of The Dead Masquerade Ball is at 8 p.m. in the Cottonwood Civic Center. All ages are welcome. This year's theme is "Island Fever," with music from Jamaica, Cuba, Borneo, Deserted, Tahiti, Hawaii, Easter, Krakatoa, Gilligan's, Tazmania, Canary, Long ... you get the picture.
