Alleged heroin dealers busted

COTTONWOOD - Two Cottonwood men have been jailed and charged with possession, possession for sale and transporting black tar heroin. One was also charged with possession of a weapon during a drug offense.

The arrests culminated a month-long investigation into heroin sales in Cottonwood and the Verde Valley.

The men are identified as Jonathan Mattson, 23, who lives on E. Bay Circle. Michael Gulliam, also 23, lives on E. Verde View Drive, both in Cottonwood.

PANT narcotics detectives followed the men when they left the Cottonwood area and drove to Phoenix on Interstate 17. With help from Phoenix Police, the men were tailed to the area of 35th Avenue and Thomas Road. A couple minutes later they left the Phoenix area.

As the men were northbound on I-17, they pulled into a gas station at Cordes Junction, where police interviewed the men.

Mattson was found to be driving on a revoked driver's license and carrying a concealed weapon.

PANT officers found 7.8 grams of black tar heroin in the vehicle, along with digital scales and drug paraphernalia. The heroin reportedly has a street value of $780.
