Rimrock woman killed in head-on collision

The Arizona Department of Public Safety investigated a fatal accident on Interstate 17 just north of the McGuireville rest area. The accident at milepost 299 occurred Friday afternoon when a northbound vehicle crossed the median and struck a southbound car head-on.

Jarrod Fagan, 36, of Peoria, was northbound in a 2001 Ford pickup. A 1997 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Rhoda Schaudenecker, 59, of Rimrock, was driving in the southbound traffic lane.

For reasons yet undetermined, Fagan's pickup left the roadway, crossed the median, and struck the southbound Schaudenecker vehicle. Rhoda Schaudenecker was killed and died at the scene

Fagan was taken by ground ambulance to a Flagstaff hospital with minor injuries. A passenger in his vehicle was airlifted to John C. Lincoln in North Phoenix with serious injuries.

Weather conditions did not allow two helicopters at the time. The accident remains under investigation.
