Mountain lion struck by car in Camp Verde

Camp Verde Marshal's deputies and Camp Verde Fire crews were dispatched to an accident involving a car and a mountain lion on State Route 260 near Verde Lakes Drive Tuesday night.

According to the report, woman driving a Honda SUV struck the mountain lion while it was running across the highway.

Airbags in the car were triggered by the crash, and driver Shirley Gordon, 54, was treated for injuries from the airbag deployment, through the vehicle itself suffered only minimal damage.

The cat, however, suffered life threatening injuries and was dispatched. Game and Fish was notified and the driver was allowed to remove the cat with a salvage tag.
