The following late night closures and restrictions will be in place on Interstate 17 at Cordes Junction next week as crews perform bridge work, remove dirt from the median and pave a new detour, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:
Sunday through Wednesday, July 22-25: The interstate will be narrowed to one lane in both directions between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. as crews remove dirt from the median and pave a detour.
Thursday night, July 26: The highway will be closed intermittently in both directions for up to 30 minutes at a time between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. as crews perform work on the bridge over I-17.
Thursday, July 26: The southbound I-17 off-ramp to State Route 69 will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow crews to continue bridge work over I-17. Traffic will be detoured three miles southbound on I-17 to Bloody Basin Road (Exit 259) and then directed to turn around and use northbound I-17 to reach the SR 69 exit.
Thursday, July 26: Drivers on southbound I-17 through the bridge work zone will be shifted onto a northbound lane and then back onto the southbound lanes. The traffic switch will occur from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. to provide a safe work zone for crews as they continue work on the bridge above I-17.
Drivers are encouraged to adjust their travel schedules in order to avoid the closures during those hours or allow extra travel time.
The work is part of a $50 million project to reconstruct the I-17/SR 69 traffic interchange.
