CAMP VERDE - Do you want to serve on the Camp Verde Town Council, but have no desire to go through the election process.
Now's your chance.
On Wednesday the Town Council accepted the resignation of Councilman Alan "Buck" Buchanan, who must quit because he has filed papers to run for county supervisor.
Under the town code the council now has 60 days to fill Buchanan's seat.
The council instructed staff on Wednesday to solicit letters of interest from anyone wanting to fill the vacancy. Letters will be accepted until noon on April 12.
"We don't have a specific policy as to whether or not the council will interview the applicants or how soon the council can make the appointment, only that it is done in 60 days or less of the vacancy," says Deputy Town Clerk Virginia Jones.
To be eligible an applicant must be a qualified elector, over 18 years of age, who currently lives, and has for at least the last year, within the corporate limits of Camp Verde.
The person appointed to the seat will serve on the council until immediately following next year's primary election, when the seat will go up for a vote.
Whoever wins the seat in that election will serve the remaining two years of Buchanan's term.
