Two seriously injured in I-17 rollover

STONEMAN LAKE -- A collision on Interstate 17 just after 11 a.m. Sunday morning sent two people to the hospital, one with life threatening injuries. Both the injured were in an SUV, which rolled after colliding with a second vehicle. The more seriously injured subject was subsequently flown to Flagstaff for treatment of the trauma.

Both patients were restrained when the vehicle rolled near milepost 306 at the Stoneman Lake interchange, but it could have been much worse.

Firefighter Jason Heartisan of the Montezuma-Rimrock Fire Department said "If seatbelts were not in use, this accident would most likely have resulted in fatalities."
