SEDONA - Wednesday, just after noon, Sedona Fire District was dispatched to an injured hiker near the Devil's Bridge, north of the city. Crews found that a woman, approximately 50 years old, fell about 75 feet while hiking with her family, SFD emergency crews determined that the hiker sustained potentially life threatening injuries.
Quickly providing initial treatment for the injured patient, crews carried her nearly a quarter mile to an awaiting off-road SFD vehicle. The patient was transported to a ground ambulance for transport to Flagstaff Medical Center.
Typically patients sustaining life-threatening injuries in off road environments are transported by air ambulance to local area hospitals. But, with wind speeds more than 20 mph and gusts exceeding 35 mph, no air ambulance was able to safely respond.
