School board seats available in Camp Verde, Beaver Creek

Candidates for school board have until Aug. 6 to file their nomination petitions for the November election. Both Camp Verde Unified School District and Beaver Creek Elementary School District have two positions up for grabs.

In Camp Verde, the terms of Judy Gilbert and Trent Hackett are expiring. Both have stated they are not going to run again. Only former teacher Kitty McDowell has filed a statement or organization to be a candidate.

In Beaver Creek, Board President Karen DuFresne and Jo Burke are at the end of their terms. Both have filed paperwork to run for re-election.

If an election ballot has just enough nominees to fill the available seats, the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors can cancel the election and appoint the nominees. If only one or no candidates surface, an election can be canceled and the seats filled by appointment of the county superintendent.

The deadline to file as a write-in candidate for an election that may be canceled is Aug. 20.

Election Day is Nov. 4.
