Patricia Hubiak Howell was born to be a teacher in 1937. She continued teaching children and adults until taking her last breath at age 78 on February 29, 2016. A graduate of Arizona State University, she received her master's degree in education from California State College in Los Angeles. Pat taught hundreds of children during her nearly 30 years as an elementary school teacher, many during her 21 years at Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District No. 6. She inspired adults with her way of living through her courage, positivity and kindness.
Retiring in 1999 and throughout her life, comments like, "Mrs. Howell is an administrator's dream," and "My son's whole attitude towards learning and school has changed since having you for a teacher" were commonly said. Every time she went to the store, a quick trip turned into a delightful journey of hellos from students and teachers.
Pat's fellowship with other women educators in Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) brought her professional and personal joy during her career and after retirement. Over the last few years, she frequently mentioned monthly ADK meetings being a highlight.
Pat is survived by her three daughters Cindie Hubiak, Beth Brock and Debi Pottorff; two grandsons Jeff and Mike Pottorff; sister Alice Whitlatch and brother Ron Whitlatch.
There are no public services planned. Memorial contributions for a scholarship to a local student may be made to ADK Fidelis Delta, PO Box 1108, Cottonwood AZ 86326.
