Editorial: Verde Valley Christmas season would be incomplete without Verde Valley Voices, Cottonwood Community Band

The Christmas season has a way of bringing out the best in the Verde Valley and it’s hard to find anything better than two local organizations who have a combined 46 years of bringing joy to our communities.

The Cottonwood Community Band and the Verde Valley Voices will bring a trio of concerts to Cottonwood and Camp Verde over the next three weeks. If you’ve never seen the Voices or the Community Band perform, you should make a point of doing so this year. Both offer high-level professional vocal and instrumental musicianship.

As for the depth and breadth of their experience, consider this: The 35-member Cottonwood Community Band has 787 collective years of musical experience and a combined total of 251 years of musical service to the community band.

The Verde Valley Voices this year celebrates two decades of performing locally. The Voices were established 20 years ago under the direction of current Musical Director Joy Simons. Beverly Hall led the choir for 15 years and Caleb Nihira directed the 2014/15 season before Simons returned to the director’s podium. Through the years, the Voices have become a vibrant part of our community; presenting concerts small and large across the Verde Valley.

The Cottonwood Community Band will present two seasonal concerts in December and both offer free admission. The first concert will be in Camp Verde at the Multi-Use Theater on Camp Lincoln Road, Sunday, Dec. 4, 3 p.m. The second will be one week later at the Cottonwood Recreation Center, 150 South 6th Street, Sunday, Dec. 11 at 3 p.m.

The Verde Valley Voices’ Christmas Concert will be Dec. 18 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, on SR 89A and Bill Gray Road. Doors will open at 2:15 and the concert will start at 3. Admission is $10.  Children 12 and younger are free.  Tickets can be bought in advance in Cottonwood at Mount Hope Foods, Verde Floral, and Desert Dancer; and in Camp Verde at Sweet Grace Consignment Shop.

With both the Cottonwood Community Band and Verde Valley Voices, their members are people who love what they do, and love sharing what they do.

You won’t find better people, who offer better entertainment, in the Verde Valley.
