I-17 rollover causes heavy damage to truck, trailer

VERDE VALLEY – Tuesday at 12:44 p.m., Copper Canyon Fire and Medical and Sedona Fire District emergency crews and the Department of Public Safety were dispatched to an motor vehicle accident at milepost 300 in the southbound lane of Interstate 17.

According to Eric Strauss, battalion chief for Copper Canyon Fire & Medical Authority, emergency crews arrived to find a full-size pickup truck pulling a large RV trailer had rolled over. The truck had separated from the trailer and rolled over the guardrail, approximately 15 to 20 feet down the embankment.

The trailer was still on the highway blocking the high-speed lane.

There was heavy damage to both truck and trailer.

Strauss said the driver of the truck had managed to get out of the vehicle and was ambulatory when emergency crews arrival. The driver did not require medical attention.

The truck and trailer were secured and I-17 remained open with traffic reduced to one lane for approximately two hours.
