THE DOUGLAS COMPANY IS EXPECTED TO MAKE IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR SAYS THE FORMATION IN THE WINZE "SUITS US."
"Several important announcements are expected from the United Verde Extension Mining Company within the next few weeks. It is understood that the company is almost ready to give out the location of its smelter and also to tell what is disclosed by the new winze from the 1400-foot level."
"That the Extension company has bought a number of farms south of Clarkdale is well known. The company still holds an option on the L. L. Young ranch, just above Clarkdale. Rumors are in circulation that the Extension's town is to be in the vicinity of the Haskell ranch, where a surveying party has been active of late."
"The winze, which was started from the 1400-foot level about 1000 feet south of the Edith shaft is now down nearly 200 feet. What has been opened by the winze can only be conjectured. One minute Dame Rumor has it that the winze has passed out of the ore body, and the next minute the same old woman avers that the bottom is in native copper."
"'It suits us,' is the only comment that Managing Director A. J. Pickrell made this week when questioned regarding the showing in the winze."
"The levels being run over from various stations of the Edith shaft to the place selected for the new hoisting shaft are almost completed. Within a few days sinking and raising from the east end of each level will be under way and the shaft will be finished in record time."
"Shipments from the Extension are according to the number of cars that can be secured. Some days only eight cars go forward, other days only five or six. The ore goes to the Consolidated Arizona smelter at Humboldt, to the C. & A. and Copper Queen plants at Douglas, and to the Old Dominion works at Globe."
