Letter: Town’s actions have cost Clarkdale large volunteer base

Editor:

I have been a volunteer and member of the Library Advisory Board from 2012 until its dismembering in 2015. This board did more than just advise the staff. We also worked the Ice Cream Social, which earned about $500 every year. We worked the Book Sale when we were able to, and that earned at least $1000 each year. In fact the last year it was held it earned over $2,000.

When the Ice Cream Social was cancelled, staff did not notify donors or the public. Clarkdale citizens who would donate baked goods to the Social year after year were bringing them to the park not knowing they were not needed.

The Library Board had amassed $9256.98 by September 30, 2014. The Board gave at least $4000 to purchase the equipment for “Movies in the Park”. This was done in 2015, and yet there still hasn’t been a movie in the park. That is out of our hands as we have been dismembered.

The town has lost a great bunch of volunteers because of this.
