Professional coach hosts baseball, softball clinics in Cottonwood in March

Verde Valley boys and girls baseball and softball players will get an opportunity to learn from local stars.

Longtime professional coach Joe Sperle will be hosting a couple baseball and softball clinics in Cottonwood on Mar. 3.

Hunter and Austin Zwart, who were all-state at Mingus Union, will be headlining the coaches at the clinics. The clinics will be at Riverfront Park from 9 a.m. to noon for ages eight to 12, and at Cottonwood Middle School from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for ages 13 to 17.

The cost of the clinics is $45, $75 after Feb. 17. They will cover hitting, pitching, fielding and throwing.

Sperle has over 30 years of playing and coaching professional experience.

Hunter Zwart’s Marauders won the 4A state championship in 2008 and 2009. He was All-Region, honorable mention all-state and played for the USA Select Team in the Goodwill Games in Australia and Arizona Western.

Austin Zwart was all-state in 2013 and 2014 at Mingus Union, selected to the All-American Baseball Game and HR Derby for International Power Showcase. His 10-11 and 11-12 Verde Valley Little League teams finished second in the state in 2007 and 2008 and he won the State All-Star Little League Home Run Derby Champion in 2008.
