Letter: Help protect homeless neighbors during winter months

Editor:

The Loft opened in 2010 in answer to the lack of shelter for our homeless neighbors. Though our community has no overnight shelter, The Loft provides a respite from the weather where participants can shower, do laundry, make a hot meal, use the phone and internet services to look for work and to reconnect with family and community resources.

Although we have been very fortunate to have successfully housed more than 25 of the families this year who have been visitors of The Loft, we still need the support of our community to help those we could not house get through the cold winter months.

The LOFT averages over 65 visitors a month. In addition to a temporary respite from the dangerous cold, they are hoping to find life-sustaining equipment and supplies to survive our winter months. The Loft needs the support of the community to help our homeless neighbors through the winter.

We need a supply of two-person tents; winter sleeping bags; tarps; warm winter socks, gloves and hats, as well as AA battery or LED flashlights. In-kind donations of these items are appreciated, but because of our limited storage space, we are also seeking monetary donations. We hope to raise $2,000 by Christmas to help buy these life-saving items.

Please help us protect our homeless neighbors from the life-threatening elements they will encounter this winter. Checks made out to Catholic Charities Spread the Warmth may be mailed to 736 N. Main St., Cottonwood AZ 86326. To charge by phone and for more information, please call me, (928) 634-4254 ext. 54128.
